“I hear the fans’ expectations” – as Nier approaches its 15th anniversary, the series producer announces the future of one of the strangest RPG games in history

Published:

The Nier franchise will celebrate its 15th anniversary next year, and while a novel game has yet to be confirmed, the game maker may have announced something for 2025.

I haven’t been familiar with the Nier series since day one, but now I can definitely say I’m a huge fan. Like many, I started with 2017’s Nier: Automata, which is now eight years aged. Earlier this week, the official Nier Twitter account reported that Automata had already sold over nine million copies, which is great, but of course what people really want is news about the novel game. There was a mobile version of Nier: Reincarnation, but that has now been shut down anyway, so if you want a sequel, you’re out of luck. Fortunately, though, it doesn’t look like it’s all doom and gloom, as series producer Yosuke Saito recently spoke about Niera, apparently teasing that there could be some kind of announcement next year.

As part 4Gamer.net annual year-end interviews with celebrated Japanese game developers (and translated by Gematsu), Saito said about the Nier series: “2025 will be a milestone year as it is the 15th anniversary of the Nier series, so I would like to do something for it! What should we do… maybe something about the next game, or events related to them This…I heard the expectations of the fans. It’s a little tricky though… That said, as a producer I’ll probably be doing less direct work, I’d appreciate it if you were patient to wait and see what comes next.”

This isn’t an endorsement at all, just an acknowledgment of your intention to do something, but look, I’ll take anything! If, like me, you’re someone whose favorite Square Enix titles are this and Kingdom Hearts, any news is good news. Let’s just hope Saito isn’t talking about another mobile game that will eventually get shut down.
