A dedicated Baldur’s Gate 3 fan digs through thousands of lines of dialogue to discover which characters most agree with each other and which don’t

The die-hard Baldur’s Gate 3 fan has sifted through thousands of lines of dialogue to find out which characters most agree with each other and which don’t.

As reported PlayerReddit user Tarrasque-Named-John analyzed data from the beloved RPG game Dungeons & Dragons to calculate which characters – such as Astarion, Karlach, Shadowheart, and the entire Baldur’s Gate 3 party – have the most consistent morale.

For this purpose, the fan used the approval and disapproval mechanic from Baldur’s Gate 3. When the player’s character makes certain decisions, messages such as “Gale approves” or “Halsin disapproves” appear, and Tarrasque-Named-John checked which characters approved the most and they disapprove of the same decisions.

Minsc and Karlach agreed the most, agreeing on 97% of all decisions. They are followed by several couples with a score of 96%: Wyll and Halsin, Minsc and Halsin, Jaheira and Halsin, and Karlach and Halsin.

The opposite was also revealed, with Astarion and Wyll proving to be the most unpleasant pairing with only 50% even. They are followed by Minthara and Halsin with 51%, and Wyll and Minthara and Karlach and Astarion with 52%.

Tarrasque-Named-John also calculated who would become the “best friend” at the end of Baldur’s Gate 3 by ignoring the percentage and looking directly at the total number of times the characters agreed with each other.

Astarion’s best friend would be Lae’zel, and Lae’zel’s friend would be Astarion. Gale would be Karlach, but Karlach would be Wyll. Awkward. That’s why Wyll’s best friend is Karlach, just like Shadowheart. Jaheria is Wyll, Minsc is Karlach, Minthara is Astarion and finally Halsin is Wyll.

These figures are as of Patch 7, but developer Larian Studios may change things up a bit in Patch 8, which is scheduled for release in 2025. While it may not shake up the morality of each character too much, there are 12 fresh subclasses to be added to the game and plenty more.

Baldur’s Gate 3 came out in 2023, but incredibly, it’s even more popular this year than last. This is largely due to the official support for mods, which are standardly available even on consoles, and not only on PC.

Players have downloaded over 50 million mods through the official mod support tool in less than two months, and this number does not include the thousands of mods introduced unofficially. Mods released so far include one that adds real-time combat to the turn-based RPG and another that introduced brand fresh maps to Faerûn, including the highly coveted Avernus.

In our 10/10 review of Baldur’s Gate 3, IGN stated: “With vivid, tactical RPG combat, a memorable story with complex characters, a polished cinematic presentation, and a world that always rewards exploration and creativity, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a new the highest level for CRPG games.”
