The Destructoid Award for the best PS4/PS5 game of 2024 goes to…

The competition for the best PlayStation game of 2024 was certainly fierce. Ultimately, however, there had to be at least one winner. When it comes to choosing the best PS4/PS5 game of the year, we did it according to Destructoid Astrobot, a beloved platformer that became a wonderful ode to PlayStation gamers.

This may not be a surprise Astrobot at the top of the list. I mean, it actually took home the winner for best game of the year at The Game Awards. And as someone who has spent countless hours playing this platformer, I couldn’t have asked for a better choice. This is one of the first times that the game of the year is my personal game of the year and it is incredibly satisfying.

Astrobot brought back such a uncomplicated concept to gaming: fun. There are plenty of titles on the market that aim to push the player to their limits when faced with challenges, whether through overwhelming enemy forces or the infamous “sweat lobbies.” Luckily, Astrobot The levels are full of fun, with unique locations and opportunities, where each level is different from the last.

The completion of each stage is also extremely satisfying for the PlayStation player. You never know what iconic character you’ll see next, and there are plenty of them across the numerous games available on the platform. What’s more, you’ll take control of some of the most beloved characters while wielding legendary powers and weapons. Hell, even as someone who hasn’t played much God of war, Astrobot convinced me enough to want to play it after just a tiny time spent with Kratos.

Although nostalgia may be a significant factor in explaining why Astrobot is so good, it’s just a great all-around game. You don’t have to be a PlayStation fan to play it; everyone can afford this title and have a nice time.

2024 is not the end yet Astrobotas more updates become available, such as the Miracle of Winter. There are many more scenes to discover (The ultimate fantasy AND Hearts of the Kingdomanyone?) and I can’t wait to see what else PlayStation has in store. 2025 is already shaping up to be another good year for PS5, with players like Death Strike 2, Little Nightmares 3AND Yotei’s spirit. It will probably be a tough competition once again, but for now we can celebrate Astrobot a fully deserved victory.
