Before Overwatch AND Marvel Rivalsthere was another crazy character-driven shooter that gamers loved: Valve Fortress 2 Complex. Fortress 2 Complex is still a current game that has had a lot of fans since its release in 2007. surprise release a Fortress 2 Complex comical, a full seven years since its last issue, it has shocked and delighted fans online.
Issue No. 7 of the current issue Fortress Team the comic is titled “The Days Have Worn Away” and begins with a tribute to Rick May, the voice actor of Soldier who tragically passed away in 2020. The art was done by Valve artist Heather Campbell, who does a great job of humanizing the ridiculous characters that make up the TF2 to throw. There’s a Scout with a boisterous family, a newly married Soldier who calls his wife his roommate, and a terrifying horror scene involving the Administrator. There really is something for everyone here.
If you haven’t read the comics, I suggest you start at the beginning. The series started in 2013 with “Ring of the Burned Out”and delves into the history of the main cast and side characters such as Miss Pauling. How Valve itself posts it on the Comics page on TeamFortress.com, “Over the years, side characters and then assistants appeared in the comics. The companies mentioned in passing have become global empires for three generations. A game that started with a handful of guys shooting each other in the desert slowly turned into the most labyrinthine story in Valve’s history.
This is actually good news because it means you don’t have to play too much of the game itself to understand this modern and thrilling story. Between the comics and the Meet the Team movies, Fortress 2 Complex it managed to stay in the gaming zeitgeist well beyond its prime. It’s great to see some of these characters get their cheerful endings after waiting in limbo and it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting any more comics.
