Hello everyone! 2024 has been another incredible year for indie gaming, and today I’m super excited to share 11 of my favorite titles coming to PlayStation this year.
Pacific Drive is a road-lite survival game in which you navigate a stormy, mysterious forest with your car as your only companion. Every time you go on a trip, your car slowly breaks down due to strange anomalies and you have to get back to the garage safely. Otherwise you have to start over. You can renovate and upgrade your car using resources collected during your trips. Each trip into the wilderness is unique and random, which makes the gameplay even more immersive and addictive.
The pixel world of this lovely game is nostalgic yet completely groundbreaking thanks to the surreal lighting that illuminates the map. Animal Well is a Metroidvania with a world full of endless surprises. The sense of accomplishment you’ll feel after conquering challenging platforming sections and puzzling puzzles is truly unique and invigorating.
The hugely popular vampire survival video game is now available on PlayStation. Players awaken as weakened vampires and hunt for the blood of enemies and animals to regain strength and gain the powers needed to conquer the map. As vampires, players are susceptible to sunlight. To survive during the day, you need to hide in the shade and avoid exposure to the sun.
As a child, did you ever pretend that you could only move by jumping from shadow to shadow? SCHiM allows you to relive these nostalgic moments by playing as a frog-like creature that can only move around the map by jumping between shadows. It’s also a visually stunning game with a unique color palette and art style.
Plucky Squire is a charming action-adventure game where you jump between 2D and 3D worlds.
One moment you’re enjoying a 2D action game on the pages of a storybook, but the next second you’re off on an adventure in an outdoor 3D land, and before you know it, you’re back in the book, solving puzzles. Packed with delightful tricks, the game provides an experience that players of all ages can enjoy.
Palworld, an indie game from Japan, is an open world, crafting and survival game full of cute creatures (Pals) that has taken the gaming world by storm. The gameplay loop of gathering friends, expanding your base, and venturing further afield is highly addictive and demanding to put down.
The latest title from the visionary team behind GRIS, a lovely yet heartbreaking adventure game released in 2018. Neva chronicles the story of the player and the wolf baby Neva as they embark on a journey through a energetic world that changes from season to season. season. The story is told without dialogue, and the ending will move you to tears.
Fear the Spotlight is an atmospheric horror adventure with a low-polygon retro style that harkens back to the original PlayStation era. Two teenagers sneak into school after hours, only to be separated by disturbing paranormal phenomena. To reunite safely, they must solve puzzles and stay out of sight of the monster wandering the hall.
From the thoughts of Keiichiro Toyama, the legendary creator behind Siren and Gravity Rush. In the 1990s, Kowlong in Hong Kong faces a series of gruesome murders. The player takes on the role of a disembodied creature that has NPCs roaming the streets to fight Slitterheads, a monster that preys on human brains. Taking down monsters as ordinary middle-aged men and women is an absolute blast.
A novel game brought to life by Red Candle Games, the studio behind Detention and Devotion. Drawing inspiration from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Nine Sols is a hardcore action game focused on bounce-based combat. Executing the perfect parry and counter attack is incredibly satisfying and refreshing. The atmosphere combining cyberpunk with archaic Chinese mythology and Taoism is also unique and fascinating.
A fusion of poker and roguelike? You may be thinking, “What is this?” But once you start, you won’t be able to stop. This game, which became a hit around the world, is the work of one developer. Incredible!
