It’s straightforward to forget that the Illuminate invasion has still been going on in Helldivers 2 over the past few days as everyone’s attention has been distracted by the pointed price changes to the game’s Killzone crossover. However, the aliens are still doing their thing in the game, and the next step on their warpath may delay the acquisition of a fresh vehicle.
Remember the Omens of Tyranny update announcement that mentioned the first drivable car in Helldivers 2, the Fast Reconnaissance Vehicle or FRV? Well, the villains have it in their sights, and the players think they’re targeting something else too.

“The AM Defense Factory Center on Achernar Secundus has been attacked by the Illuminati, threatening production of the Fast Reconnaissance Vehicle (FRV)” – Arrowhead’s latest major order reads: “If the Illuminati are not repelled, FRV distribution will be severely delayed. Importantly, many colonists will also be killed or kidnapped.”
So, naturally, people on the Helldivers 2 subreddit and in the game itself thought, “Oops, I better get my ass to Achernar Secundus,” only to look at their maps and realize something. The main battlefield planet of this fresh order is located near Meridia, which longtime Helldivers will remember as the planet that turned into a purple black hole in June.

In a humorous coincidence, players noticed that the black hole’s appearance had recently been overhauled with the introduction of the Killzone crossover, taking on a darker shade and gaining some additional floating elements around it. Naturally we come to a conclusion is that the Illuminati will soon make a move towards Meridia, perhaps to do something like drag fresh reinforcements through the hole.
Considering that many people have spent most of this year since the hole became a reality believing that this could very well be the place from which the Illuminati will come into play, it doesn’t seem like much of a leap in logic, but the Arrowhead itself isn’t still convinced.
Recently released in-game alert from the studio issues the following edict to the people: “Some hell divers may have noticed fresh electromagnetic phenomena near the Meridian Black Hole. The High Command is aware of the situation and is closely monitored by experts in the field.
“Helljumpers are advised to avoid distractions and focus their full attention on repelling the Illuminati threat.” So here you go. No thinking, leave it to the experts. I’m sure Meridia will be fine.
At least if something happens to the backdoor soon, you’ll have some Killzone to Helldivers 2 crossover gear on hand when you dive into the fray, after Arrowhead responded to the pricing controversy by giving everyone the second installment for free.
