This Black Myth: Wukong Switch game is not the action RPG game you think it is

We’re pretty sure we’ll never get it Black Myth: Wukong Switch release, but Global Game Studio’s upcoming console release is sure to fool some people into thinking this happened. This also sparks a much broader discussion about cheating and shoveling in the Nintendo Switch online store.

Video game researcher Daniel Ahmed pointed out a game on the Nintendo Switch eShop called Wukong Sun: Black Legend that clearly emulates one of this year’s most popular ARPG games. This game, which is actually a uncomplicated cartoon platformer rather than a cinematic Souls-style game, is just one example of a number of titles available in the store designed to trick people into buying them.

Though one commentator in Ahmad’s post points out that the story of Sun Wukong is a well-known Chinese myth in the public domain for anyone to employ, which doesn’t explain the eerily similar graphics and game name that make this title worthy of “Black Myth: The ‘Wukong at Home’ Label.” Furthermore, as the game is scheduled to be released on Boxing Day, it is highly likely that newborn children with Nintendo eShop vouchers will fall into this trap.

One of the many Switch 2 features we want is a much improved eShop experience, with more refined tags and recommendations similar to marketplaces like Steam, but wiping out all the software on the platform wouldn’t be wasted either. It’s demanding enough to find recent, well-designed games to try on your console without titles like Wukong Sun: Black Legend.

So no, you won’t be able to play Black Myth: Wukong on Switch over the holiday season, but there are plenty of other games like Dark Souls you can check out. We also have a list of the best monkey games for Switch and mobile if you’re looking for some primate action.
