Pokémon TCG Pocket launches its PvP event on Mythical Island today

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket hosted its third player-versus-player event today, December 20, awarding emblems based on the Mythical Island expansion.

The Mythical Island Emblem event follows the same format as the first PvP event released for the digital card game and simply challenges players to earn a total of 45 wins over three weeks in order to receive the best rewards. The event will end on January 10.

However, players can only earn Package Hourglasses by participating in the event. Three are rewarded for participating in one battle and three battles, six are rewarded for participating in five, and 12 are rewarded for participating in 10.

Shinedust is available to those who win battles: one victory rewards 50, three rewards 100, five rewards 200, 10 rewards 500, 25 rewards 1000 and 50 rewards 2000. Players will also receive emblems for victory, earning a white emblem for one victory, a brown emblem five-win emblem, 25-win silver emblem, and 45-win gold emblem.

Mythical Island arrived as the first major expansion for the Pokémon TCG Pocket, and with it came a makeover. Former Pikachu seems to have taken a slight dip thanks to the addition of a number of cards that seem designed specifically to destroy him, while former Mewtwo has received a subtle buff.

The former Celebi has also emerged as a recent threat to the meta, but now the initially overlooked former Mew is also in the spotlight.

Pokémon TCG Pocket appeared on October 30 and became a hit among developers Creatures Inc. and The Pokémon Company, which grossed approximately $200 million in its first month with over 60 million downloads.

This huge amount of money comes as Pokémon TCG Pocket follows the standard model of mobile and free-to-play games, showering players with rewards in the first few days before they soon desiccated up, and spending real money is the only real way to relive that early thrill beyond occasional scenes like Mythical Island.

Completing Genetic Apex, the first card set that officially has 226 cards but also includes 60 sporadic cards with alternate art, is estimated to take players spending no money for about two years, while those looking to make it rain will be able to complete the collection after dropping around $1,500.
