The spy from Team Fortress 2 has finally taken off his mask after 17 years

Published:

Well, here’s something I didn’t expect: Valve finally revealed what Fortress 2 ComplexThe spy looks like it’s under a mask. And it turns out he looks really handsome!

Valve’s ever-popular class-based team shooter was released in 2007, so at this point it feels like three lifetimes ago. Since then, Valve has slowly built up a ton of lore and backstory for the characters seen in the game, including all of the Red Team’s mercenaries like the Doctor and the Heavy. Many of these stories have taken place in sporadically published comics since 2009 . For example, Heavy has a sister who ends up falling in love with Soldier! Anyway, suddenly, almost seven years after the sixth issue, Valve published the seventh main installment TF2 comic book series and finally revealed Spy’s face.

And yes, minor spoilers for issue seven below. Consider this your final warning.

After 17 years of playing Fortress 2 Complexit’s very strange to finally see the Spy without his mask. But that’s what you see below.

The man in the suit is the Spy who is sitting on the couch after giving the mask to his daughter. (Yes, Spy has a daughter and Soldier got married. A lot happened in the comics!)

Besides revealing the Spy’s face, which is an significant moment for us TF2 fansthis seventh issue also seems to be a farewell to Valve. Many of the plot threads in this issue are tied together in a satisfying, if somewhat rushed, way.

Still, I’m glad Valve is finally putting this together TF2 comic book and its history. Will we get more TF2 comics in the future? Perhaps, but as far as the main plot of the entire series is concerned (yes, it was finally developed), it seems to be ready. And that’s nice. Perhaps now that everything is in place, Valve will be able to wrap up another franchise and its story arcs as well. I’m talking about Half-life 3. I want to play Half-life 3. Please.

You can read the entire comic for free by clicking this link. But first, I suggest you read the issues that came before it.
