The 2XKO team is on vacation, but they are gone nice little action plan sort of for those who want to learn more about the game before heading to the office for some sweet treats and alcoholic nights. In low, there will be an update of what’s coming in February, and players will have the chance to see it for themselves in March.
This aligns with what we already know, that the next playtest will be in Spring 2025. For those who forgot, Spring includes March, April, and May. This, combined with the game being set for a vague 2025 release date, leads many to believe that the upcoming playtest will take place in March or shortly thereafter. Ben Forbes, editor-in-chief of 2XKO, further narrowed the term in this regard “main beat” will drop “probably overdue) in March.

At first glance, this means that we will have to wait a few months and wait for more. But let’s have some fun, compile what we know and speculate a little. Time is quickly running out until the final release date, even though it remains a secret.
We know that Jinx will be in the game thanks to the gameplay trailer released during the Arcane hype season, so it’s not a far-fetched assumption to say that she will be playable in the upcoming test. Indeed, developers have a history of announcing characters just to make them playable at the earliest possible opportunity. Yasuo was announced the day before Evo 2023, where players could try it out for themselves, and Braum was announced shortly before Evo 2024 and the first alpha lab test.
Further digging brings more invigorating tidbits. Fighting game player and content creator Diaphone was one of the few influencers who headed to the Riot Games offices to play Jinx early, and revealed that he was able to try out other characters which are yet unannounced. This is not unusual. A while back, Riot brought a immense number of streamers into the offices to try out the pre-Evo 2023 build, where they could play with Yasuo, as well as other characters like Braum, who were hidden from the public eye at the time.
Based on this, one could hope that a novel character would be revealed in February. This is by no means guaranteed, but considering there are only so many months left until release and there are only seven officially announced characters in the game (plus Katarina, who lives in this strange, partially confirmed zone) needs to gain some real momentum if the game is to reach that comfortable 10-player team.
Other things that could be revealed are a more specific release date/window, which would be nice. Personally, I would wager that a Fall 2025 release window could be implemented. What’s more, Evo 2025 is coming up soon. 2XKO has been a long-time presence at this event, and so I wouldn’t be surprised if more information is released about it.
Here we go, another period of radio silence until more concrete information emerges. What do you think they’ll reveal in February? Let us know below!
