We used to organize the Creators’ Day presentation only once a year, in the summer. Now we also get encores during the holidays. This year’s Day of the Devs: Game Awards 2024 Edition also did not disappoint. Every time I think about a highly selected, very personal, extremely intimate show can’t top the last onesomehow it still is.
As the video game industry lurches from one big-budget sequel and live-service disaster to another, with seemingly less and less room for creativity, experimentation, and risk-taking, Day of the Devs reminds us that wild, wonderful things are being created all around us, as long as you know where to look. And the organization that began with the collaboration of DoubleFine and iam8bit before becoming a nonprofit organization supported by donationsactually knows where to look.
This year’s event featured 19 great-looking games from a wide variety of genres, with a wonderful assortment of visual styles and from developers from all over the world. I can’t wait to try them all. Especially Tank headwhich seems to be what you’ll get if you set it Shadow of the Colossus in the world Wall-E.
