If you’ve spent any time with NetEase’s recent hero shooter Marvel Rivals, you’ll already know that there are plenty of powerful heroes and villains in the game. However, with a base roster of 33 characters, some will inevitably rise to the top once players get their hands on them. Memes and jocular videos about the game have already taken over social media, with many of them focusing on which characters are causing a lot of frustration and irritation among the game’s over ten million players. After playing a few hundred games, I’ve found that some are more intimidating than others.
So today we’re ranking the best Marvel Rivals characters according to how crazy they drive fans. Of course, this list may change in the future depending on recent additions or balancing fixes, but for now, here are the most overpowered characters in Marvel Rivals.
6. Moon Knight
Marc Spector, aka Moon Knight, may be a relatively low-powered character in the Marvel comic book pantheon, but he poses a grave threat in Rivals. Both his Crescent Darts and Moon Blades can bounce not only between enemies that are close to each other, but also between his Ankhas, which clever players can place at all sorts of strange angles for extra damage without their enemies even knowing. where they were hit from. This is made even easier for Moon Knight players due to his agility and easily scaling buildings or vantage points with his double jump and hook shot abilities. And while his ultimate, Khonshu Hand, is effortless to dodge if detected, the fact that it comes directly from above means that many Moon Knights have found it best to place it slightly behind the enemy team. This takes advantage of players’ natural tendency to fall back when they can’t immediately see where the final attack is coming from, leading them straight into the damage zone.
It requires forethought and positioning, but once you master the basics, Moon Knight can destroy the enemy team before he’s even detected.
5. Star Lord

The title of “Legendary Star-Lord” may be something that Peter Quill calls himself more than anyone else, but in Rivals he more than lives up to the hype. Playing like a variant of Overwatch’s Tracer, with the ability to fly instead of going back in time, Star-Lord is an instant trigger. His Elemental Pistols deal a lot of damage at a rapid rate, he can fly out of the sizzling zone at any moment, and his Stellar Shift dodge skill, for which he has two charges before cooldown, not only reloads the weapon but also grants him frame invincibility. When it comes to hit-and-run tactics, few characters in Rivals can match Star-Lord, which makes his ultimate even more outrageous. Galactic Legend combines his hard-hitting, fast-reloading weapon with free flight and auto-aim, meaning that unless someone shoots at him the moment he activates it, the opposing team will be unable to do anything other than take cover and wait out the ability .
He still needs to watch his health as he’s a cushioned DPS character so he can be something of a glass cannon. However, if you can handle cooldowns quickly and well, Star-Lord can seem unbeatable in the right hands.
4. Scarlet Witch

There was no way the strongest Avenger was going to sit out a shooter with Marvel heroes, and Wanda Maximoff is once again back in the spotlight as one of Rivals’ deadliest fighters. Perfect for Overwatch Moira players who couldn’t aid but rack up the most eliminations in a match while seemingly being a healer (guilty of charging), Scarlet Witch can drain enemies’ health bars without requiring much aiming. Her targeting magic is joined by powerful Chthonian Burst missiles, which she can throw frequently, and two charges of Mystic Projection, which grants her free flight and a “Phasic” state that allows her to avoid all damage for a tiny time. Once you get into a rhythm, Wanda can annihilate enemies at both close and long range, while easily dodging enemy retaliation or ultimates without even having to get into a good position. There’s also her ultimate, Reality Erasure, which, while it has a long charge time, instantly vaporizes any enemy within range. It’s more than worth the wait.
Since I’m the main Scarlet Witch, many players probably hate me. But if loving Wanda in this game is wrong, then I don’t want to be right.
3. Hela

It may not be as obvious to casual players, but the real Rivals bosses certainly know why Hela is on this list. The Goddess of Death lives up to her namesake, with her Night Thorn Sword primary fire capable of obliterating heroes from long range with just a few critical hits, and her Piercing Night attack often killing them in a single cast. While she’s not technically a sniper, in the hands of a skilled enough player she can actually function as a sniper.
And let’s not forget her ultimate, Goddess of Death, which allows Hela to soar above the field and unleash hellfire from above. While it’s technically possible to deplete her health bar in this state, it’s not really worth it because she gets an HP buff, which means it takes almost the entire duration of the ability to shoot her. This means she can single-handedly score a point by forcing the enemy team to run for cover, making her an early favorite to block characters once she reaches Diamond rank in Competitive Mode.
Thor and Loki may be the more popular characters, but Hela is the real threat to Asgard that you need to watch out for.
2. Jeff

No one would have thought that an adorable little shark could cause such hysteria, but Jeff the Land Shark quickly became one of the most hated heroes in Marvel Rivals.
Why? He’s a healer and isn’t particularly built for frontline combat (even if his main attack is deceptively powerful and has damage reduction on critical hits). But the real reason Jeff is so afraid is because of his ultimate ability, It’s Jeff!, where the baby land shark reveals its voracious appetite. Jeff is invincible when casting spells, and once he selects a circular area, he immediately swallows everyone within it, friend and foe alike. Enemies do take damage while in Jeff’s stomach, but the real value of this ability is that he can move around in it with other players, which means Jeffs often spits his enemies into bottomless pits. Some will even guarantee kills by committing suicide by jumping over the edge with the enemies inside.
There is a counter to this ability (for example, the Scarlet Witch can usually avoid being swallowed with well-timed Mystic Projection), but the insult of being eaten and thrown off a cliff by a baby shark has enraged many players.
He may be designed to keep allies well, but clever apply of his ultimate makes Jeff an absolute menace on the battlefield.
1. Iron Fist

No character strikes more primal terror in the hearts of Marvel Rivals players than Lin Lie, Immortal Iron Fist. This martial artist has by far the craziest powers in the game. Not only does his rapid fire punches allow him to kill healers and duelists with impunity while giving him extra health, but he also has four air jumps on cooldown, as well as a spin kick that throws him forward. This means he can fly effectively, using his attacks and jumps at the right time while chasing characters like Iron Man literally across the sky. But that’s not even the worst. He can also apply Dragon Defense as a parrying maneuver against virtually any attack in the game. No, really. He can somehow protect himself from a nuclear attack, being eaten by Jeff, or being erased from reality by Wanda with just a well-timed movement of his arms. If there’s an Iron Fist on the enemy team that has even a moderate understanding of his toolkit, you’re in for a world of pain.
Seriously, NetEase, do something about this man. My healers are dying.
