We won’t get the first trailer for James Gunn’s Superman until the end of the week, but at least it shared the main theme.
There’s a lot on James Gunn’s shoulders right now. As co-director of DC Studios, he’s the one taking the modern DCU in a direction that will either pay off hugely or cause DC to likely abandon its ambitions for an interconnected cinematic universe altogether (there’s only so many times you can do a universe reboot, despite what they say comics). As shared by Gunn himself on his personal Twitter account, the trailer for his Superman movie is: finally this Thursdayoffering a first look at the modern DCU – on the live-action front, anyway, as its currently airing animated series Creature Commandos is actually the first project in the film universe.

But to give you time until Thursday, Gunn also posted a miniature snippet of what appears to be the main focus of the film. You can check it out for yourself above, the audio paired with a sort of GIF of David Corenswet’s Superman flying upwards, with the theme playing while he does it. And it’s quite cute! It has a very mellow, nostalgic feel, and you don’t have to listen very closely to hear that it references the main theme of the 1978 film directed by Richard Donner, and of course, amazingly composed by the one and only John Williams.

This modern theme will be performed by John Murphy, a composer whose credits include many classics such as 28 Days Later, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and 2021’s The Suicide Squad, which Gunn also directed; this will be the third film the pair have worked on together, as Murphy also created the score for Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
However, after this week’s teaser trailer, you’ll still have to wait a while, as Superman won’t be released until July 11 next year. I’m sure you can handle it!
