Helldivers 2 players will get a fresh sweet treat along with a surprise DLC: melee weapons

Helldivers 2 players are already on the front line against the fresh, third enemy faction in the game Omens of tyrannya surprise update that appeared on Thursday evening. The Illuminati have arrived – or at least a forward fleet representing that faction – and they are a nasty bunch of space squids. Developer Arrowhead Game Studios, following last night’s surprise update, has introduced a fresh War Bond that includes another highly requested feature from the community: melee weapons.

Players can choose between two melee weapons: the CQC-19 Stun Lance, the longer-range Urban Legends Warbond weapon, which costs 1,000 Super Credits, or the CQC-30 Stun Baton, which is available in the Premium Shop for 200 Super Credits. Melee weapons are located in their own category in the secondary weapon slot and can be used in conjunction with stratagems such as the Ballistic Shield.

Between the addition of a fresh melee category, the appearance of the Illuminati, a vehicle to ride with your Helldiver friends, and urban environments, the collective cup Helldivers 2 players are running out. Arrowhead has responded to some of the community’s loudest demands, and players seem quite elated with testing out their fresh weapons against the Illuminati and their zombie hordes.

Speaking of the Illuminati, fighting them is very engaging, but I feel like we haven’t seen everything this faction has to offer yet. Compared to worms and bots, they are ponderous and deliberate, but have powerful psychic abilities, intimidating walkers, and old-style UFOs that summon fresh enemies to the battlefield. Their largest unit is Voteless, a zombie, a man who strongly resembles the husks from the Mass Effect games.

An engaging fact is that Walkers, the Illuminati’s massive unit, appear even on lower difficulty levels. Ball Titan, Charger, and Factory Walker are units from the other two factions that will not appear until Helldiver selects a specific difficulty level. With this in mind, it seems likely that more squid will appear in future updates. A infirmed fresh vehicle and melee weapons are nice, but I wouldn’t feel too comfortable yet.
