Thank God Naughty Dog is doing something different than The Last Of Us

I love The last of us AND Unchartedbut I would also be joyful if I never saw another game in this series. After all, for almost 20 years, Naughty Dog has exclusively created games from the same two series. Wild thoughts, right? First Uncharted Work on the game began in 2005 and since then the studio has been creating, among others: Indiana Jones-esque romps or an entry into a prestigious non-zombie soap opera. The studio that created Crash Bandicoot It’s no stranger to spending a lot of time with one brand after spending generations of consoles on it Crash AND Jak & Daxter before turning into Uncharted in the PS3 era. But seeing the first trailer Intergalactic: Heretical Prophet On Game rewards I wanted to watch the studio free itself from the franchise shackles that PlayStation had trapped it in for so long. Still, it looks like there might be a catch.

We may have arrived peak The last of us tiredness within four years from Part II launched in 2020. Between remakes, remastersand HBO seriesco-protagonists Joel and Ellie are almost inevitable. Even though the series won awards and attracted millions of viewers, there was a general feeling that people were tired The last of us. It doesn’t facilitate that the show has remained stagnant for the last few years, giving us nothing fresh to say, as each fresh project has been a remake or recreation of what was already there. So even though a third game is clearly lurking in some drawer at Naughty Dog’s office, we haven’t had anything really fresh to talk about in years. Part II it’s an all-time top 5 game for me, and even I’m tired of retreading it, although I’ll have to do it again when the show’s second season comes out next year. So yes, let’s finally take Naughty Dog to a fresh, fresh universe, rather than the one it’s been taking us back to for the last two or three generations.

Intergalactic: Heretical Prophet is a fresh science fiction game where space travel has greatly advanced in the mid-1980s. Director Neil Druckmann quoted science fiction anime Akira AND Cowboy Bebop as inspirations, which is obvious after just a quick look at the game. The first trailer has a retro-futuristic aesthetic, highlighted in details such as Jordan, the bounty hunter protagonist, listening to compact discs and using CRT TVs in her spaceship. The game’s tone and themes are a marked departure from the adventurous treasure hunting and grim zombie-killing that the studio has focused on for so many years. Druckmann claims that it is a a “return” to the studio’s action-adventure roots that reach Crash Bandicoot however, the series Intergalactic clearly upholds some of the film and television aspirations associated with the prestige of Naughty Dog’s recent projects. It’s electrifying to see a studio of talented people working on something completely original for the first time in such a long time.

Druckmann said New York Times that the studio “earned” the space to “earn” something fresh after its success Uncharted AND The last of usboth of which became multimedia franchises that Sony pushed into other media. I’m not thrilled to hear that Naughty Dog apparently attaches the same aspirations to Intergalacticas Druckmann says, the studio is now prepared for the “power of IP.” I could see him becoming attached to this game as he already was Uncharted AND The last of us. Once finished Unexplored 4this series could (and should) go away, but if it’s replaced by another decades-old franchise that Naughty Dog returns to in every other game, I hope that doesn’t also mean the studio won’t be free to explore its next massive idea for the next console generation or two. It seems that the safe and sound profits of profitable franchises that are reaped time and time again for every drop of profit that can be extracted is all that massive companies want these days

Astrobot released this year, and despite being a tribute to PlayStation history, it was it’s especially missing from PS5 games celebrate. When Sony’s current platform reaches the level the second half of your lifeit’s encouraging that the company’s enormous marquee studio is getting the chance to create something fresh and hopefully leave an impression on the console’s legacy. I just hope we don’t have to wait another decade to see Naughty Dog create something fresh again.
