One of the biggest collaborations in the gaming industry will get even closer on December 12 with the release of Lego Fortnite Brick Life, which looks very similar Grand Theft Auto online if the target demographic was 6-year-olds.
A compact video released with Monday’s announcement shows the popular phenomenon Fortnite characters such as Banana Man, Fisherman and Ursa Pink (these may not be their real names) hanging out in a world full of Lego bricks. They race through crowded city streets on decked out neon motorcycles, pull off elaborate treasure heists, and personalize their dream homes and apartments with Lego guitar racks. The banana tree even trips… on the banana. Wild.
In his own announcement post, Fortnite developer Epic Games described Lego Fortnite Brick Life as “an all-new social role-playing game where up to 32 players can experience it in the heart of a bustling city.”
“Players can explore vibrant areas of the city, customize their dream home, take on jobs, and connect with friends and other players via text chat,” Epic said. “Lego Fortnite Brick Life is a game that is constantly evolving and will receive new content updates over time, including new tasks, resources and events.”
But it’s not only fun in the sun. Lego Fortnite Brick Life players will also be able to take on a variety of jobs to fund their lavish lifestyle, from the mundane-sounding courier and security guard to more glamorous careers such as “milk barista” and fortune teller.
When Lego Fortnite Brick Life launches later this week, it will be included in a novel section dedicated exclusively to Lego Fortnite“Discover” menu next to the previously released crossover, now called Survival Mode Lego Fortnite Odyssey. Most elements will apparently be cross-compatible across both versions, with support for “particularly large builds” coming in the near future.
