You will start Infinity Nikki in a fairly uncomplicated story, but at its core it’s a gacha mobile game. Meaning Infinity Nikki it has all the expected systems: a selection of outfits, stamina that regenerates over time but has a limit, and some sort of upgrade system. However, as you play, you may wonder what it’s all about.
If you are at all familiar with similar open world gacha games like Windy waves, Genshin StrikeOr Fantasy Toweryou’ll know that once you catch up on the story, you’ll find yourself in the same gameplay loop. You exploit your stamina to acquire materials to upgrade your characters and weapons. Once you’ve buffed everything up decently, you’ll start collecting individual pieces of gear, which will get random stats when they upgrade – thus creating a somewhat endless grind. Is it the same in Infinity Nikki? Well, sort of.
(Please note that this information comes from a closed beta that we played shortly before the game’s release, so there may be some differences in the information in the live version.)
What does combat look like in Infinity Nikki?
Fight in Infinity Nikki is extremely uncomplicated. Nikki can shoot bullets at enemies. Most of the enemies you’ll find throughout the world can be defeated in one shot, with some requiring two hits. There are boss fights where you’ll have to dodge attacks, wait for an opportunity, and then attack at the right moment – but there’s no way to get through these fights faster while dealing more damage. Nikki’s attacks seem to have a fixed value, and you don’t upgrade her equipment to deal more damage.
So why am I upgrading my Infinity Nikki outfits?
You need to reinforce Nikki’s clothes for another reason. Instead of adding offensive stats to clothing, you’ll need to upgrade its visual stats to be able to perform more complex style matchups.
Throughout the game, you’ll have to fight some lower-level style duels, but you can take on several optional factions throughout the world. You’ll be given challenges, and once you complete enough of them, you’ll be able to take on the huge boss in exchange for rewards like diamonds (premium currency) and even recipes to make more clothes. Some of the early style duels can be fought with low-level default clothes, but you’ll need to upgrade your stuff to fully complete some of the later duels.
This is where the gameplay loop comes into play. You can only upgrade your clothes to a certain extent and you will need to raise your Mira level (player level) to raise the upgrade cap. Spending stamina (called “vital energy”) and completing tasks will earn you plenty of EXP that will allow you to level up Mira.
Do I have to farm random stats and equipment in Infinity Nikki?
NO Really. There is additional gear called “Eureka” that you will want to collect to earn more points in style duels. These are collected by spending stamina on warp spiers, and you can upgrade them to add more stats to them.
While their color will randomly change once you reach max level, it didn’t seem like the stats “rolled” randomly in the same way that stats do in the aforementioned gacha games, so you could safely just grab one of each (or more, if you want a specific color), without having to breed them for centuries. So no, there are no random stats, but yes, there are gears you will want to collect.
In a sense, you’re doing the aforementioned gameplay loop, which overlaps with other open-world gacha games. You If upgrading equipment and so on, although the method, reason and grind are completely different.
I mean, not really To have make any of this. You can spend your time collecting Whimstars, catching bugs, and completing side quests, largely ignoring this element of the game if you’re not into grinding or min-maxing – but style duels are a major feature of the Nikki series, and you won’t be able to create an iconic wonder outfit without facing faction leaders. You’ll need to craft a Miracle Outfit to reach the final points of the game (as of launch), although you can enjoy your time in Mira Land doing other things if you prefer.
