Outlaws from Star Wars finally launched on Steam last week. Unfortunately, there is also an issue with the latest version of Windows that prevents open-world sci-fi adventure games and other Ubisoft games from working. Microsoft has confirmed the issue and is suspending the update in the meantime.

“After installing Windows 11 version 24H2, you may experience problems with some Ubisoft games,” reads the warning on Microsoft’s website. “These games may become unresponsive while starting, loading, or while actively playing. In some cases, users may receive a black screen.” It lists the following games as “incompatible with the latest update.”

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  • Avatar: Pandora’s Limits
  • Outlaws from Star Wars
  • The beginnings of Assassin’s Creed

If you’re seeing a pattern here, these are all Ubisoft open-world games and some of the publisher’s most popular releases in recent years. Microsoft has imposed a compatibility block to prevent the update from being available on any PC with the above games installed, and says it is working with Ubisoft “on a resolution.”

Meanwhile, Ubisoft did it released its own patch for Outlaws from Star Wars to try to alleviate the issues for anyone who already has the latest Windows 11 update installed. “Additionally, we have now rolled out an interim fix (v1.4.1) for players who were experiencing gaming issues on Windows 11 24H2,” the patch notes read. “Please note that there may be some performance issues while working on a more permanent fix.”

It’s unclear how many players are actually affected. The Windows update started earlier this month and before November 21st Outlaws from Star Wars was only available through Ubisoft’s proprietary Ubisoft+ launcher. Assassin’s Creed Valhallaon the other hand, it probably has millions of PC players who could potentially encounter problems if they try to run the game in the near future.
