A clearer picture of how Dragon Age: The Veilguard is performing is starting to emerge, although maddeningly, we still don’t have concrete numbers. Released on October 31, we’re getting closer to the final numbers for the month, and Circana’s always insightful Mat Piscatela provided additional context on BioWare’s latest release.
I’m talking to IGNPiscatela says there are a few additional things to keep in mind, considering that based on dollar sales, Veilguard was Number 6 best selling game in the United States, the world’s largest video game market. Most importantly, as Circana’s report covers the period up to November 2, it means that the modern Dragon Age reached number 6 in just three days on the market.
Moreover, unlike SEGA, publisher EA does not provide Steam data, so while Metaphor: ReFantazio may have finished fifth based on PC sales, The Veilguard’s position only reflects those on PlayStation and Xbox. Piscatela believes that if this number were included, it would reach as high as number 3; it’s impressive when the numbers one and two are taken by Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, respectively.
When asked to compare The Veilguard’s sales path to Dragon Age: Inquisition, 2014’s GOTY and BioWare’s best-selling game ever, with an impressive $14 million in sales over the period, Piscatela said: “Looking at the first days of sales and initial engagement levels via Circana Track player engagement. It was good, though not great, the launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard didn’t meet the launch weekly sales levels of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth or Dragon’s Dogma II, and achieving total sales for Inquisition will be challenging, but again, it’s very early and much of the story remains to be seen stories in November will give us a much better read.”
