Space Marine 2 mods blocked from public matches

In statement published on SteamGrigorenko confirmed that the decision was made to block mods from public matches because “Saber Interactive data shows that a significant number of recent server stability issues are related to mods and that the instability affects even those users who do not have mods installed.”

However, this is not the end of the problems. According to Grigorenko, some user reports claim that “their save files were corrupted after playing with players with mods.” While it’s sorrowful that mods are being banned from public matches, the reasoning is solid. For long-term health Space Marine 2that’s realistically the only decision the studio could have made.

However, mods for Space Marine 2 will not go away

The good news is this Space Marine 2 mods will not disappear completely, and their existence is of great importance to developer Saber Interactive. Grigorenko’s statement acknowledged that the mods “will undoubtedly contribute to the longevity of this game” and will therefore continue to be available for utilize in private Operations lobbies.

Saber Interactive will “provide all the necessary server infrastructure so you can play online with your friends using mods,” and the mods have been confirmed to work in Eternal War’s upcoming custom lobbies.

The statement ends with a commitment to “provide an easy entry point to our backend for games with mods installed,” as well as “making some of our tools available to modders so they can create mods with greater ease.” Sure, they can’t be used in public matches, but that’s what it sounds like Space Marine 2 mods will get better and better.
