Minecraft director reacts to backlash over strange first trailer

First Minecraft video trailer it was a mess. It felt tonally lacking, the humor didn’t quite hit the mark, and the live action aesthetic was confusing. Stars Jack Black and Jason Momoa looked like they were playing in different galaxies. Children will probably still be delighted with the finished workbut throngs of online commenters were immediately discouraged. Adaptation management understands this. “We were ready for anything,” they assured.

Minecraft video reThe film was directed by Jared Hess and produced by Torfi Frans Olafsson Minecraft franchise, recently responded to the reaction to the first trailer in an interview with IGN. “I mean, look, we knew this game represented so many different things to so many different people,” Hess said. “We knew that no matter where we went, there would be strong opinions about what people expected and wanted it to be. Everyone brings their own personal connection to the game.”

One of the main questions was why Minecraft the movie is live action with lots of visual effects and not just CGI animation as fans might have expected, a movie based on the popular survival game. A fan-made trailer that was basically a remake of the official trailer, only in Minecraft itself, seemed intended to provoke this question and it quickly went viral.

Olafsson explained that one of the reasons for making a live-action adaptation was precisely because it was different and had not been filmed before. This was also something that was implemented a long time ago. Warner Bros. started cooperation Minecraft producer Mojang was supposed to produce the film back in 2014, and the current version, scheduled for release in 2025, is the result of a long and cluttered process during which the project changed artistic hands several times.

“This film took a very, very long time to make,” Olafsson said. “Many of the people who will see this weren’t born when the first contracts were signed and the first discussions were made, and there was always live action.”

According to Hess, there were also many things, such as Momoa’s utilize of the crafting table, that just didn’t fit the quickly edited context of the first trailer. The duo seems confident that the way these gameplay elements are conveyed and developed in the film itself will make much more sense to longtime fans.

Apparently early test viewers agree. The couple says early screenings of the film Minecraft the film, even without completed visual effects, received positive reviews, unlike the first trailer. “People say, ‘This doesn’t look anything like the trailer.’ This movie is amazing,” Olafsson said. The film’s premiere is scheduled for April 4 next year. The second trailer was released today, looks much better.
