We all know that Baldur’s Gate 3 mods have proven to be quite popular since Larian added official support for them in patch 7. The developer went to great lengths to tell us this, even letting us know who we should thank for their contributions.
Either way, now Larian’s publishing director has said that the adoption of mods has actually led Larian in 2024 to overtake where it was in terms of some player stats this time last year, when BG3 was about to head into the holiday season that was he starts collecting all the GOTY awards he has won. Seriously, it looks like there’s a chance the Pope just bought it to see what the constant fuss was about.

On Twitter, Michael Douse shared some “fun facts” he found while looking at Larian’s sales charts. “Our average daily maximum concurrent connections have increased by 3% this year compared to last year” is the first, “Our average daily active “users” have increased by 20% compared to last year” is the second, and “our daily average The number of Steam Deck users increased 61% compared to last year.
The director cites the first two specifically as proof that “mods are good,” which is something I’ve been saying for some time now, in between trying to figure out which of the 1,000-plus add-ons is keeping my copy of Skyrim from being released. In response, one user said that he would like to see more developers adopt modding like Larian did, by releasing their toolkit and bringing BG3 mods to both PC and consoles. “They’re probably afraid that people will modify sex so the rating boards will hunt them down and kill them at night,” Douse replied.

Another captivating tidbit to come out of this fresh batch of uncommon Douse tweets is that Baldur’s Gate 3 has now sold one more copy at the Vatican. Yes, after him revealed last week that two copies of BG3 were sold in the Vatican – the place where the Pope lives – with one additional wish list, Douse now reports that another sale has occurred.
Naturally, Larian’s publishing director immediately assumed that the final copy was bought by the Pope himself, because it’s humorous. However, in VG247 we focus primarily on FACTS, as we have already proven, so we decided to try to calculate the probability that the Pope actually owns BG3.
As of 2023, the population of Vatican City is 764 people. Three copies of BG3 were sold there. So about 0.39% of the Vatican’s population currently owns BG3, which means the Pope has a chance to be one of the three. Unless I’m wrong in my calculations and it’s now the last event on Monday, so there’s a good chance that’s the case. Sure, there’s not a good chance he owns it, but it’s better than nothing.
With what is sacred to him he tweeted about the New Orleans Saints lately, I’m pretty sure he has a good chance of becoming a Madden player, so I hope he finds enough time for both between his duties as Pope.
