How to break the glowing blue cracked statues in Elden Ring

Published:

Very early on in Elden Ring I saw these random, cracked, eye-catching statues with blue or turquoise featherlight. After 50 hours I finally know how to open it.

Taking a step back, there are many different types of statues in this game, and some of them with whom you can interact directly. I’m not talking about these. I mean statues that have been partially cut open, often buried in the ground or overturned. You’ll probably recognize them when you see them. I like this one!

**Spoilers below**

I didn’t put two and two together until much later.

If you’re anything like me, you may have tried two-handed weapons, various jump attacks, and throwable explosives, just to name a few tactics that seemed like a good idea at the time. No dice – at least I didn’t see it. Instead, you will need to enlist outside aid. You have to exploit the large boy.

That’s right, large boy

If I had spent more time looking at that cracked, glowing statue on the stormy slope of Limgrave Hill, with several trolls nearby, probably would have found a solution much earlier. In fact, on the revisit, an a-ha moment happened organically: a giant simply walked through it on its way to my character, and the cracked statue exploded, revealing a shiny prize.

What was inside? Unfortunately, only a few low-level smithing stones – a useful find in the early game, but much less useful later in the game when there are more of them.

If you missed the statue shown above, you may have seen this statue with a glowing rift in the heart of Stormveil Castle that you would pass by on your way to the boss.

It’s not very comfortable to lie next to a large, gnarled enemy – large enough that I think he could Also be forceful enough to break the statue… but it didn’t work for me. Looks aren’t always everything, but once you feel who (or what) has the magic touch to bust down the glowing statues Elden’s Ringyou’ll probably be able to recognize them immediately.

After luring this troll, I just had to do it let him walk freely on the top of this statue. He could also just lunge at me and break the statue, causing collateral damage, but at lower levels this could be very risky.

One good troll slam should be enough.

Interestingly, there seem to be other large-scale enemies Elden’s Ring are able to open these glowing, cracked statues. When we mean large boys, they don’t have to be on the scale of said trolls. You just have to be able to look at them and think, “Yeah, this guy could probably eat rocks.”

Depending on the area you are in, you will need to scout to find out who the biggest enemies are. You’ll need to train one or two beasts and lead them to a statue with glowing cracks. In the Sealed Tunnel example below, the statue is against a wall, so you can’t just hide behind it and hope an enemy walks right into it.

You will have to lean your back against the statue when the enemy is about to attack you. Dodge his attack at the right moment and hopefully they will open the thing for you. It’s not the safest solution, but you probably won’t get anywhere by asking nicely.

What do the glowing, cracked statues contain?

As for the reward, from every example I’ve seen, these glowing, cracked statues just provide different levels upgrade materials such as Smithing Stones for your weapons and shields. Potentially good loot, but not necessarily something I’d want to get, if that makes sense.

This is the latest in a series of “Wow, I really thought about that!” moments in the game. Love it. Especially now that I’ve hit a brick wall and it’s time to hike again.
