Competitive play was a highly requested feature within the Vermintide community, given its Left 4 Dead-like style, which was perfect for PvP play.

This is more or less translated into Vermintide 2, which pits two teams of four against each other, taking turns playing as the heroes Ubersreik Five and Pactsworn, giving players a choice of five Skaven beasts, each with a specific ability – you’ll know them as unique enemies, with that you regularly face in PvE.

This comes with a modern set of challenges and rewards designed specifically for playing and earning in Versus, but allowing you to show off your skills in other modes as well.

Fatshark also revealed that a modern free DLC pack called Verminous Dreams will be added to the game. It will feature three modern levels, with the first coming to all platforms on December 9, and the remaining two in early 2025.

Though originally released in 2018 on PC, and now followed by the sci-fi-fueled Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, Vermintide 2 remains a staple of good co-op fun. We revisited Vermintide 2 in 2022 and once again had a fantastic time. Jim said:

“Overall, Vermintide 2 is an excellent base game, strengthened by years of updates, content and developer support. This type of passion has not gone unnoticed by the Warhammer community, who are eagerly awaiting what may come next in the series. That said, those hoping to see Vermintide 3 in the near future may have a long wait ahead of them, as Fatshark is currently focusing its efforts on taking the four-player co-op formula into the distant future in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. The team is no doubt hoping that lightning will strike twice, leaving the fantasy world behind for this bleak sci-fi setting.”
