You may know who will be starring in Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four movie, but the official synopsis finally tells us what they’ll actually be doing.
In February, after many fan castings, hopes and questions about who would be the Fantastic Four in the MCU, Marvel finally revealed quite a forceful cast. Moments later, a report emerged that Julia Garner would be playing fan-favorite character Silver Surfer, although this was not completely confirmed at the time. Now, however, Marvel has confirmed Garner’s involvement and the character, and has even released the full official synopsis, so we know more or less what the movie will be about (thanks, IGN).

“Set in a dynamic retrofuturistic world inspired by the 1960s, Fantastic Four: First Steps features Marvel’s first family – Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), who face their most daunting challenge yet in history,” reads Marvel’s synopsis.
“Forced to balance their role as heroes with the strength of their bond of family, they must defend Earth from a voracious space god named Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus was planning to devour an entire planet and everyone on it wasn’t evil enough, it suddenly got very personal.”
Okay, generally speaking, you can assume that’s what the movie is about, but at least it’s nice to know for sure. There is no indication that Robert Downey Jr. will appear in the film as Doctor Doom, whom he will portray in Avengers 5, but considering that the Fantastic Four will also appear in several subsequent Avengers films, it can be assumed that it will be at least in the post-credits scene.
Fantastic Four: First Steps is currently filming and is currently scheduled for release on July 25, 2025.
