Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, the grim sci-fi sequel to Fatshark’s popular Vermintide series, will be released on PlayStation 5 on December 3, the studio announced.
Darktide on PS5 will include all the content and improvements made to the game since its launch on PC, and will also include a PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced tag. This means you’ll see the following performance goals:
- Frame rate 60fps in 4K resolution on PlayStation 5 Pro
- Performance mode (60FPS at 1440p resolution) for PlayStation 5
- Quality mode (30 frames per second in 4K resolution) on PlayStation 5.
The PS5 version will likely be very close to the Xbox Series
Darktide was first released on PC in November 2022, but was met with its fair share of negative comments from the Vermintide community regarding performance, bugs, and overall game progress. To address these issues, Fatshark postponed the Xbox Series X|S launch and finally released the game on the console in October 2023. Now, regardless of exclusivity deal or not, the game will be coming to PS5.
In Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, you join a team of Inquisitors as they embark on a series of missions, trying to free the city from the clutches of the corrupt forces of Chaos. The thing is, where you might expect to be a faithful member of the Space Marines in most 40k games, you’re actually a criminal who gets a chance at redemption after saving the life of an Imperial Guard officer from the followers of Chaos. This means you won’t have the best weapons and equipment seen in something like Space Marine 2, so there’s still a lot of close-quarters combat in addition to the gunplay.
We rather enjoyed the game, and Dom said in our review: “Darktide is an absolute blast. His heavy mix of hand-to-hand combat and gunplay ensures that the mad flow into the hive city will be non-stop.”
