At the beginning of the first season, Caitlyn is revealed to be a Piltover resident who has her heart in the right place, even if she does not understand the realities of the world. As a novice officer, she wants to uphold justice and the law, but after joining forces with Vi and becoming embroiled in a larger conflict in the city, she quickly learns that neither side is without blood on their hands. Vi opens her to the humanity of the people of Zaun, while betrayals from the dishonest guardians above her show her that everything may not be black and white. Even after the final skirmish in season one, Caitlyn seems like someone who truly wants to change the relationship between Zaun and Piltover to make it better for both sides.
Of course, if her mom is dead, that changes everything. Season two is already looking to put Caitlyn on the warpath, but her grief may temporarily blind her. After the Council’s attack, Caitlyn now appears to be something of a leader of the city, and Jinx plays a similar role in Zaun. Perhaps these two will still find a way to overcome the cycles of violence that their cities have been mired in for years.
