The Monster Hunter Wilds beta is off to a rocky start on Steam

Published:

Good morning, have a nice Monster Hunter Wilds beta day! And what a day it is! A quick look at SteamDB this morning shows that a plot people are playing the Monster Hunter Wilds beta this morning: over 463,000. over the last 24 hours, with plenty of room to grow further over the weekend.

As of this morning, the Monster Hunter Wilds beta is currently available the fourth most played game on Steambehind only Counter-Strike 2, PUBG and Dota 2. It managed to surpass GTA 5, Call of Duty, Naraka: Bladepoint and even Banana, a strange game that has consistently attracted huge numbers of players for months despite being just a clicker game bananas. Either way, yes, Monster Hunter Wilds is more popular than clicking a banana.

This player count will likely only continue to grow over the course of the weekend, considering the current player count as I write this at 5:45 a.m. PT on Friday is 424,000. Will Monster Hunter Wilds dethrone Dota 2? We’ll see!

The Monster Hunter Wilds beta is technically available on October 28 on PS5 as part of an exclusive two-day early access period for PS Plus members, but it landed on PC, Xbox, and the rest of PlayStation yesterday at 8 a.m. PT. It will last until 7 p.m. Polish time on November 3. The beta version includes a character creator with the ability to transfer characters to the full game, a bit of story content, and a full hunt for the Doshaguma monster.

In our last preview of the game back in August, we were quite pleased with what we saw. We called it “A Monster Hunter that embraces the elements of Rise that made it so much more inviting, but also doesn’t shy away from the larger scale and spectacle that helped make World a more enduring installment.”

If you’re waiting for the full release, Monster Hunter Wilds will be released in its entirety on February 28, 2025, and Capcom has released the system requirements for PC players. We’ve already seen several teaser trailers of what to expect, including the recently revealed novel monster that is… a farting pink monkey? Tidy?
