BioWare currently has no plans for downloadable expansions for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which apparently ends any hopes for DLC along the lines of fan-favorite releases like Trespasser and Awakening. Instead, Rolling Stone reports that now that Dragon Age has officially launched, BioWare’s “all attention has turned entirely to the next Mass Effect.”
While BioWare did not provide any further details in Rolling Stone’s report, IGN understands that the studio plans to support The Veilguard with quality of life improvements and some smaller content updates. We’ve contacted EA for more details.
BioWare’s decision not to release DLC may come as a surprise given its history with Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Baldur’s Gate 2. DLC episodes such as Lair of the Shadowbroker for Mass Effect 2, the prequel Leliana’s Song for Dragon Age 2, and the previously mentioned Trespasser features some of BioWare’s most beloved stories, offering a deeper look into their worlds and characters. However, having completed its ten-year journey with The Veilguard, BioWare appears ready to turn its attention to Mass Effect, which was largely on hold as the studio focused all of its efforts on the release of Dragon Age.
Meanwhile, fans are busy diving into BioWare’s latest RPG following Thursday’s release of Dragon Age, rocketing it to up-to-date heights for an EA game on Steam. They have plenty to find even without the DLC – estimates on that IGN sister site HowLongToBeat suggest that it can take up to 88 hours to complete the main story while completing side quests. In our review we wrote: “Dragon Age: The Veilguard refreshes and revitalizes a multi-threaded series that has survived its mid-years and leaves no doubt that it deserves its place in the RPG pantheon.
