Today we’re excited to announce Death Note Killer Within, a brand modern online social deduction game for up to 10 players where you can take on the role of iconic characters from the Death Note series. The key to this game is the Death Note, because the man whose name is written on this note will die! But be careful, this deadly note lies hidden between you and other players, setting the stage for an invigorating game full of strategy and deception. Play as Kira and rate other players using the Death Note, or play as L and collect clues to arrest the killer. Get ready to discover the truth and outsmart your opponents to win.
Death Note Killer Within will be released on PS5 and PS4 on November 5 and will be included in PlayStation Plus’ November monthly games lineup.
Game Overview
In Death Note Killer Within, players have four unique roles: Kira, Kira Follower, L, and Investigator. Players can select their desired role at the start of the game, but depending on various selection factors, the system will assign each player a final role based on availability. Players will be divided into two teams: team Kira and Kira Follower, whose main goal is to eliminate L, or team L and Detectives, whose goal is to arrest Kira.
The game unfolds in two main phases: the Action Phase cycle, where players can collect clues and complete their tasks, and the Encounter Phase, where players meet to discuss and attempt to arrest Kira based on suspicious behavior during the Action Phase.
If L is eliminated during the Action Phase, Team Kira wins. However, if Kira is arrested during the encounter phase, the Death Note is removed and Team L wins. Alternatively, by completing various objectives during the Action Phase, players can lend a hand enhance their team’s Progress meter, and the first team to reach the maximum Progress meter will win the game.
Player roles
If you are “Kira”, you will start with the Death Note and exploit it to eliminate NPCs and other players. However, to evaluate a player, you need an ID document with his real name and surname. You can get this by staying close to your target for a miniature time, but don’t be too suspicious or you will be interrogated during the encounter phase.
As “Kira’s Watcher,” your mission is to steal Researchers’ IDs and secretly cooperate with Kira by communicating privately using a transceiver. Additionally, the Death Note can be transferred between Kira and Kira’s Watcher, so even you can become the next Kira! Make a transfer at the right time to cheat other players.
The “investigators” play an essential role in identifying the real Kira, gathering clues to support their deduction. Beware of suspicious players who get too close to you, as your ID may be stolen if they are Kira or Kira Followers. Researchers also complete goals such as asking NPCs for references, which helps reveal information about Kira.
If you become an “L”, unlike regular investigators, he will have special actions that allow him to obtain valuable information during the Action Phase, such as giving orders to other players to investigate and set up surveillance cameras. L can also facilitate discussion during the encounter phase to narrow down suspect players. Strategically exploit your special actions to get one step closer to discovering the truth and arrest Kira.
To win, you have to cooperate
Death Note Killer Within encourages players to work together as a team to achieve their goals. Each of the four roles has its own gameplay characteristics. Depending on the role assigned, a wide range of strategies can be formulated, and each random scenario is transformed into a high-stakes tactical game.
For example, the Death Note can be transferred between Kira and the Kira Follower, allowing them to mislead investigators. L can narrow down the suspects by giving instructions during the action phase and leading discussions during the meeting phase to effectively conduct his team’s deductions.
Research and cheat in style
Customize your in-game avatar with hats, glasses, masks and various accessories to stand out from the crowd. But that’s not all, you can even choose a custom nameplate and select special animations that will be displayed at key moments in the game.
