Remember how Baldur’s Gate 3 mods have proven to be quite popular since Update 7 made them available to everyone? Well, it hasn’t slowed down as Larian has just revealed that as of this point, players across all platforms have already downloaded 50 million games.
That substantial number may not yet cover everything the studio suggested to modders in a tiny animation that will be released when Patch 7 arrives on consoles earlier this month, but it’s still impressive.

“Collectively, you have downloaded over 50 million mods since patch 7 introduced mod support,” Larian said in a tweet confirming the milestone. Apparently 10,000 of these downloads were due to Withers renaming itself Bone Daddy. So, uh, I’m glad we could make it easier.”
The mod that does this, in case you’re wondering, is SydMeier, hmm…Bone Daddy‘. A very “does what it says on the tin” name from a modder who also allowed people to call Karlach as Mommy Karlach, Mama K or Karlsnack, and Astarion as Twinkstarion. I’m 99% sure you can operate the latter as your online account and no one will immediately assume that you bought the sex doll mentioned in this article.

Anyway, since I want to leave it to you to discover other wonderfully weird things you can change the names of BG3 characters to, I’ll now move on to say something else.
Given that modders have already started using the Larian toolkit or modified versions of it to do things like experiment with real-time combat, recent romance scenes, and fully custom quests – likely involving a clown living in a strange tent dimension – who can say how high total mod downloads can eventually go when nippy stuff comes out?
