Cities: Skylines received its final piece of DLC last May as developers Colossal Order focused on its sequel, Cities: Skylines 2. Eighteen months and the release of Cities: Skylines 2 later… Cities: Skylines 1 Gets New DLC Again.
The Mountain Village Creator Pack includes 45 novel buildings designed to facilitate you build quaint and picturesque locations.
Much of the DLC for Cities: Skylines was created by community members, and that is the case here, but the developers of Colossal Order also did not engage in implementing this work in the game.
“We want to assure those of you who play Cities: Skylines II that creating new content for Cities: Skylines is an entirely separate effort. The content you’ll find in this version of Cities: Skylines was implemented by Tantalus, the studio that managed the console ports of Cities: Skylines,” he says package announcement. “No resources have been diverted from Cities: Skylines II for this purpose – our friends at Colossal Order are fully focused on developing and improving Cities: Skylines II. This approach allows us to release confident updates without compromising any game.”
Cities: Skylines 2 launched last year in a rocky state, plagued by both bugs and performance issues. There has been improvement since then, but the first DLC pack was still so poorly received that players were given refunds and everyone had to apologize.
For these reasons, and Paradox’s many other recent missteps, I think a return to the Cities: Skylines DLC would easily be considered a retreat of sorts. However, I really think this is great. Many people own and love the first Cities: Skylines, and many cannot pick up the sequel even if they wanted to, so why wouldn’t the publisher continue to serve that audience. More people should do the same.
You can grab it Mountain Village Creator Pack from Steam. The base game is also 75% off.
