A few weeks ago, Sports Interactive announced that Football Manager 25 had been pushed back to March 2025, and then pushed back from its November release date to the end of the 2024/25 season. This has led the community to call for Football Manager 24 to be updated with data from the 2024/25 football season. Sports Interactive has now responded to this request and had to rule out such an update.
In a statement, Sports Interactive said: “Following the announcement of the delay to FM25, many of you have called for an official update of FM24 with data for the 2024/25 season. We have been investigating this issue since the first internal conversation about postponing the game. Once we have identified the scope of work required, and despite good initial response from many of our licensors, we cannot port the assets we employ in FM25 and make them work in FM24 without fully restoring them. The same applies to many competition rules, translations and database changes that cannot be re-ported. Updated assets and data will be required for licensor approval and cannot be separated.
This is a significant undertaking that would deprive critical resources necessary to ensure the highest quality of FM25, which we simply cannot compromise on. If you pre-purchased FM25 and would like to apply for a refund, please contact your retailer. Thank you very much for your patience. We are passionately committed to delivering the best game possible when we release it in March 2025.”
It’s still unclear what impact this will have on the release schedule for future Football Manager games, as it’s unlikely that Football Manager 26 will be ready by the end of 2025 unless it’s just a database update. Following the move to a fresh engine and major gameplay changes, features have already been removed from Football Manager 25, including international management, which should return in future games, touchline shouting, club creation, challenge mode and versus mode. Football Manager 25 will have an official Premier League and women’s football license for the first time in its history.
