When we think of the creator of RARE, we think of beloved shooters like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, but we have a lot of love for them Banjo-Tooie. If you’re longing for a trip down memory lane or are encountering this classic title on the N64 for the first time, you’ll want to renew your Nintendo Switch online membership to get your hands on it soon.
Nintendo confirms in a brand modern vignette for modern Switch games that the fan-favorite RARE title will be coming to the Nintendo Switch Online library on Friday, October 25, 2024. We certainly can’t think of any other massive release like this year’s biggest FPS game that will come out then, right? If you can tear yourself away from the mobile version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, we wholeheartedly recommend giving Banjo-Tooie some time.
Released towards the end of the Nintendo 64 generation cycle, this excellent platformer is a good old-fashioned platformer filled with puzzles, collectibles, and plenty of bad guys to defeat. In true RARE fashion, Banjo-Tooie also once had some fantastic multiplayer mini-games. This refreshed version of the game includes support for widescreen mode, improved graphics and improved sound.
This isn’t the first time Banjo-Tooie has gained some love, as it previously made its way to the Xbox 360 in 2009. However, the Switch version of the game is monumental because it marks the first-ever re-release of the game on a Nintendo console. It will sit alongside Goldeneye in the ever-growing Nintendo Switch Online library, but you already know how special this game is, right?
If you need a quick refresher on Banjo-Tooie, or if you’re playing the game for the first time, RARE describes it this way: “Bear-bird duo Banjo and Kazooie come to the rescue! Magical mini-games, challenging puzzles and strange enemies await them as they progress through archaic ruins, underwater lands and even an amusement park.”
We’re excited that more N64-era games will be playable on the Nintendo Switch, especially since it means the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console will have quite the collection to stock up on at launch. Although if we could have a say in what Nintendo adds next, a WWF No Mercy piece would be awesome.
