Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that the second expansion for Alan Wake 2, The Lake House, will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC next week on October 22. This DLC will take you even deeper into the terror that reigns in the horror universe, as clearly evident in the novel gameplay trailer.
Much like the Night Springs DLC from earlier this year, The Lake House aims to further unite the Remedy Connected universe. The connections to FBC go deeper when a novel playable character appears in the titular Lake House in response to a novel AWE event.
FBC Agent Estevez goes to the Lake House research station in Cauldron Lake. It’s a standalone story that can happily exist alongside the main game’s spiraling story. It runs parallel to Saga’s earlier Alan Wake 2 as Estevez deals with the overlap.
In particular, there is a mysterious living image that spits out novel horrors that must be dealt with. Fortunately, Estevez, while possessing no paranatural abilities of her own, is equipped with both standard firearms and FBC-specific weapons designed specifically to combat paranatural entities.
While Night Springs was a collection of standalone “What If?” episodes, The Lake House is more of a contiguous world that you have to explore and try to survive – it’s more of a survival horror game.
Once you have access to the expansion, The Lake House will be playable from the main menu, but it is also (like the Night Springs expansion) tied into the main campaign if you want to play through the whole thing. This will keep you switching between a menagerie of characters and experiences.
Looking back at the original release, Alan Wake 2 was one of the best games of last year.
“Just as it gives equal screen time to its two characters, Alan Wake 2 is the perfect blend of equal storytelling and survival horror,” Nick said in our 10/10 review of Alan Wake 2. “Both aspects have been combined into a brilliant mod to create a game that will mess with your head, scare the hell out of you, and leave you smiling as you dive forward again, eager to see what happens next.
That wasn’t the only news about Remedy from Xbox Partner Direct, as the studio also revealed its online co-op spin-off Control, now called FBC: Firebreak.
