Will Xaku be the next great Warframe?

Published:

Warframe The last first installment, Sevagoth, was released at the end of August, so we’ll likely see another one before the end of the year. (Probably somewhere around when Warframe: 1999 falls.) But who will be next? Sevagoth has seen a major change in its top frame release cadence, leading many to speculate that Xaku Prime will be the next addition to Warframes.

People are still digesting Koumei and the five fates an update like a recent frame or lots of added QOL, but others are looking to the future. Xaku would be the first non-binary Warframe, which would explain why Sevagoth changed the way Prime frames were released. Here’s everything you need to know Warframe another top-notch frame.

Since 2012, developer Digital Extremes has stuck to the rhythm of releasing the best Warframes in male, male, female and female styles. This partly explains why exactly when recent frames added to the game do not accurately predict the release date of their main counterpart.

However, Sevagoth, the last released core version of Warframe, changed this rhythm, making the sequence Male-Male-Female-Male for the first time since the game’s release. This may not sound like a huge deal, but changing a pattern that has been going on for over a decade is worth considering.

Here are all Warframes released since 2023:

  • Sevagoth Prime, male, August 2024
  • Protea Prime, female, May 2024
  • Gauss Prime, male, January 2024
  • Grendel Prime, male, October 2023
  • Wisp Prime, female, July 2023
  • Hildryn Prime, female, March 2023

Digital Extremes hasn’t explained why this has changed or announced what will happen next, but it’s nothing out of the ordinary. While there may be no official explanation, there is an unofficial one: Digital Extremes configures Xaku as Warframe another top-notch frame.

Why Xaku could be the next great Warframe

Canonically, Xaku is a non-binary Warframe, first century Warframes history. Moreover, Xaku was the next Warframe introduced after Protea, which means that 2024 will be around when we can expect Xaku Prime to be released. However, the male-male-female-female publishing schedule complicates matters.

It makes sense that Digital Extremes wouldn’t want to release Xaku in a traditionally male or female version. But with the release of Sevagoth Prime, the next Warframe could be male or female given that the pattern has been broken, and that makes it the perfect time to drop Xaku Prime.

Although, since there are no more non-binary frames yet, as well as the fact that if Xaku Is then there will be only one female frame released from slow 2023 to early 2025, the pattern will likely be restored after Xaku Prime, which means the following release schedule:

  • Caliban Prime, male, early 2026
  • Lavos Prime, male, end of 2025
  • Gyre Prime, female, mid-2025
  • Yareli Prime, female, early 2025
  • Xaku Prime, non-binary, slow 2024

Some community members have pointed out that a release schedule like the above would mean that Lavos would get a shorter cut since it released right after Xak (and before Sevagoth), but if Digital Extremes actually plans to return everything to normal after Xak, that’s the most likely order.

Why Xaku might not be the next perfect Warframe

On the other hand, some say that Xaku’s knowledge prevents them from obtaining the base version. While this would be the first Warframe not to have a counterpart, Xaku’s place in history is undoubtedly unique, especially in terms of how they were created.

Instead of being created by Orokin, Xaku was created after combining three Warframes lost in the Void. So Xaku is not a customary Warframe, if at all he is a “Warframe” in the customary sense of the word in terms of lore, which means Xaku Prime may not make sense.

However, others have pointed out that another Warframe, Revenant, was also not created by Orokin, but Revenant Prime is in the game. It would certainly be unusual if Xaku didn’t get a first-rate counterpart, but the release of Sevagoth Prime is already a departure from the norm.

Ultimately, we’ll have to wait and see what Digital Extremes does towards the end of the year, when we can basically expect another top-notch frame to be released, so keep your eyes peeled.
