Wizardry Variants Daphne, the latest mobile installment of the eminent Dungeon Crawling series, is now available on iOS and Android. Following a group of adventurers exploring a hazardous dungeon called the Abyss, like many other entries in the series it promises exploration, combat, and plenty of power scaling as you delve into increasingly deadly challenges.
Wizardry needs no introduction, but for those who aren’t aware, it is one of the longest-running RPG series in history. Typically following the usual format of adventurers exploring dungeons, it differs from other series in that you do not explore an open world, instead focusing on one area and the city center.
Meanwhile, Wizardry Variants Daphne is much more anime-like than the other games, mainly because the series proved to be a huge hit in Japan. But for the skeptics, it still promises as much excitement, action, danger and adventure as you would expect from any other game bearing the Wizardry name!
All the abyss, no Stygian
I can definitely see some people being put off by the more anime art style, especially considering Wizardry is derived quite close to the original Dungeons & Dragons aesthetic. It’s worth noting, however, that Wizardry is probably responsible for most of the current interest in fantasy from Japanese fans and creators, and it’s basic to see inspiration from even other current titles in many of the monsters.
