Leveling ReFantazio metaphor Royal virtues it’s one of the most crucial things you can do in Atlus’ modern RPG, aside from exploring dungeons and meeting key deadlines. Royal Virtues is Metaphor’s version of Persona’s social stats, and just like in Persona, you must reach certain milestones with these stats before you can start or continue relationships with certain characters. In Metaphor, these relationships with Followers lend a hand you unlock Archetypes, so developing them as quickly as possible – and therefore raising your Royal Virtues quickly – is a very good idea.
Below we explain how to quickly and effectively raise your Royal Virtues in Metaphor ReFantazio.
How to Improve the Royal Virtues of the ReFantazio Metaphor
Like Atlus’ Persona games, Metaphor has five Royal Virtues that you can perfect:
- Courage
- Imagination
- Eloquence
- Tolerance
- Wisdom
Specific actions provide vast and tiny boosts to one Royal Virtue, and in very sporadic cases some even lend a hand raise the level of two Virtues at once. However, each activity takes time, so you give up something else to work on this Virtue. It’s also worth remembering that the time system in Metaphor works in such a way that after exploring any dungeon, you have no free time, either as a side quest or as a main quest. Unless there’s something crucial you need Royal Virtue for, it’s best to focus on upgrading it after you’ve completed a dungeon with a massive deadline, or at least made significant progress in it.
How to raise courage in the ReFantazio metaphor
Courage is one of the easiest and most effective royal virtues to upgrade in Metaphor, as you receive a significant bonus for completing any side quest that involves combat. This includes quests such as those that start relationships with Brigitta and Alonzo’s Watcher, as well as rewards, and the added bonus of quests is that you earn a vast sum of money in the process.
You can also raise your Courage by talking to Strohl during the day aboard the Gauntlet Runner. This option rewards you with some nice character development scenes and a bit of extra MAG.
How to stimulate your imagination in the ReFantazio metaphor
Metaphor gives you fewer options for developing your Imagination outside of talking to specific NPCs. In each city there is one person you can talk to to stimulate your imagination, such as the man who talks about fairies on Sunlumeo Street in Grand Trad. Some books improve your imagination, such as the New World Journal and the Literacy Workbook, and for completing More’s tasks you get a decent imagination boost, which also increases your More’s Follower rank.

You can occasionally spend time with Strohl and Hulkenberg on the Gauntlet Runner and get a tiny Imagination boost, although you’re more likely to get it by spending time with Eupha once they join.
How to raise eloquence in the ReFantazio metaphor
Metaphor gives you several ways to raise your Eloquence, and one of them even gives you a chance to get some extra money and a tiny boost to another stat. Some activists in each settlement will lend a hand improve your eloquence if you spend time with them, including a tribal equality activist on Sunshade Row in Grand Trad. You can read a book called Pride and Persuasion on the Gauntlet Runner – available as soon as you gain access to the Runner – to gain four Eloquence points after each session. The book takes three sessions to complete, and upon completion you receive an additional four points.
However, the best way to raise your eloquence is to take a podium in every city and speak to people. You can do this at any time and gain Eloquence points, although the number of points depends on how well you read the audience’s mood, but you will get the most bonuses if another candidate is already speaking. In addition to the Eloquence boost, you can earn one point for Imagination and a tiny amount of money as a donation from a satisfied crowd. These scripts are not available all the time, so when you’re in town, just check the podium to see if anyone else is speaking.

Finally, you can spend time with Junah on Gauntlet Runner to get a slight Eloquence buff and some MAG.
How to raise tolerance in the ReFantazio metaphor
It’s worth increasing your tolerance quickly, so you can start unlocking further branches of the Healer Archetype, and there are plenty of ways to do this. Several NPCs improve your Tolerance, including the apologist Mustari in Grand Trad. Reading “Bygone Days” and “How to Get Off the Island on the Gauntlet Runner” will also improve your imagination, although the former doesn’t appear until after July 17 and the latter after September 7, and you can spend time with Heismay on the Runner to raise your Tolerance and earn MAG.
There is a cow in Martia that you can milk to get a good tolerance boost, assuming you follow the instructions of a nearby farmer. Use the dialogue history to check these instructions if you forgot them before you started.
How to raise wisdom in the ReFantazio metaphor
Our quick guide to raising Wisdom outlines your best options before leaving Grand Trad, but you have a few additional options once you venture out into the world. In every larger settlement – one that you can actually walk around – there is a bench where you can spend time watching people passing by. You can also spend time with Neuras on the Gauntlet Runner to upgrade Wisdom and gain extra MAG, and Hulkenberg will sometimes be available at night on the Runner. You can play with her to get MAG and more Wisdom.
