Remember that pieces of heart are not the same as whole hearts heart containers you receive for completing boss fights. Pieces of hearts are items you will find scattered throughout the map. Collecting four of them will grant you an extra heart and boost your total maximum health by the same amount as a single heart container. There are 40 pieces of hearts in total.

There are 40 pieces of hearts to collect throughout Hyrule. The map above shows the 33 pieces of hearts we have found so far.
Where to find pieces of heart IN Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Pieces of hearts – such as stamp holders – can be found basically anywhere, but they are usually in hard-to-reach places.
Look for them on top of pillars surrounded by enemies or on top of difficult-to-climb cliffs. You won’t have to defeat all the enemies to grab the heart piece, but it will make it easier to get it if you don’t avoid attacks.
You’ll also find a lot of them in caves and mini-dungeons scattered around the map. They are usually found behind some uncomplicated puzzle or on the other side of a tough platforming section.
