Lara Croft’s uneven second trilogy of games will be remastered in 2025 with Tomb Raider 4-6 remasteredCrystal Dynamics announced on Friday. The collection will include updated versions of songs from 1999 Tomb Raider: The Final Revelation2000s Tomb Raider: Chroniclesand 2003 Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness.
Just like the respectable ones Tomb Raider 1-3 remastered collection, the remaster of the second trilogy will bring improved graphics, gameplay improvements such as modernized controls, a novel photo mode and other quality of life updates. Developer Aspyr returns to oversee the second remaster of the Tomb Raider trilogy.
Tomb Raider 4-6 remastered represents a low period in the series’ history where the original creators of Tomb Raider, Core Design, tried to kill Lara, after getting tired of releasing regular sequels. It was implied that Lara had died Tomb Raider: The Final Revelationa fate that was all but ignored in an anthology style Chronicles and an attempt to start a novel trilogy, Angel of Darkness.
According to reports from Core Design, the fourth, fifth and sixth Tomb Raider games were quite arduous to create. The latter game was plagued by noticeable delays and technical issues. These challenges were reflected in the quality and reception of the games; The Last Revelation, ChroniclesAND Angel of Darkness received mixed to negative reviews at the time. After 2003 Angel of Darknessthe franchise was picked up by developer Crystal Dynamics, who rebooted the Tomb Raider story Tomb Raider: Legend in 2006.
However, an Aspyra remaster may solve some of the problems with this trilogy of games. The studio continues to work Tomb Raider 1-3 remastered resulted in an excellent product.
Tomb Raider 4-6 remastered will be released on February 14, 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X. The collection costs $29.99.
Crystal Dynamics announced three remastered games this week along with two major Tomb Raider milestones. As revealed by Crystal Dynamics, the 27-year-old franchise has officially sold over 100 million copies so far, and Lara’s novel animated series entitled Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croftdebuted Thursday on Netflix. There is no news about the next Tomb Raider game, which has been announced for 2022.
