A group of former members of the original development team of the beloved RPG Disco Elysium today revealed their first modern title from a modern British studio: XXX Nightshift. No, you won’t experience deja vu – it really did happen twice in one day, and this reveal came on the heels of the announcement of Longdue, another independent studio run by former Disco employees.
Dark Math Games’ first title will be a single-player sci-fi RPG that promises significant depth and unique mechanics.
In XXX Nightshift, players take on the role of “Patrol Agent” Dinorah Katz from the year 2086. Katz is stuck in a luxury ski resort in Antarctica – trapped along with a host of characters. You’ll solve cases and work with companions to role-play and uncover the secrets of the resort and its inhabitants.
You’ll interrogate suspects, engage in sci-fi world-bending mechanics, and make plenty of history-altering decisions.
“In addition to innovations in traditional RPG mechanics, we will introduce something fresh to the game,” says Dark Math Games co-founder Timo Albert. “And of course a few fewer words. And maybe a few more bullets. All in all: a lot more fun.”
This studio is the latest addition to the collapse rancid atmosphere around the creator of Disco ElysiumZA/UM – a confusing mess of briefings, counter-briefings and horror stories. After key figures left the studio, the writing seemed to be on the wall – but modern studios are rising from the ashes, the latest of which is Dark Math.
