Neva: Nomada Studio details the design and DualSense features of its stunning PS5 platformer

Neva is another game from Nomada, the studio behind Gris. Therein, the heroine Alba develops a bond with a teenage wolf. Overtime, the wolf will grow bigger and stronger and the duo’s relationship will evolve.

You’ll soon be able to play Neva on PlayStation 5, and we’ve implemented a number of features designed specifically for the console.

The original concept for the game was for two human characters who would then transform into animals – including a bear – before settling on a wolf, which the team believed would make for a more compelling relationship and striking visual impact.

Neva will take full advantage of PS5’s unique features, including using the DualSense controller to draw you deeper into the game’s hauntingly handsome world. We want you to immerse yourself in Neva’s story as much as possible, as Alba and her wolf Neva bond and work together to defeat the strange creatures before them.

A lot of playtesting was done to understand what kind of attacks would be compelling without disturbing players. While Neva doesn’t always auto-attack, as she grows and becomes more skilled, Abla will be able to direct her attacks with the stick, which will add a more strategic approach to combat and even puzzles.

In combat, Alba can command her wolf companion Neva to attack enemies she cannot handle on her own. When the wolf lunges at an enemy and unleashes a fury of teeth and claws, you’ll feel the full kinetic force of the attack through the DualSense touch triggers.

Alba is a woman of few words, but whenever she calls for her furry friend, you’ll hear her screaming Neva’s name. On PS5, her voice will echo through the DualSense controller’s built-in speaker. When Neva is a toddler, the mischievous wolf will be easily distracted and you’ll have to call out his name to get him to stay by your side.

Early in the story, when Neva is still a little girl, there will be tender, sweeter moments where she gets a little nervous about jumping over cliffs or the world around her, so Alba will have to call out to her, encourage her, or comfort a pet to reassure Neva of her capabilities .

Neva is, as you can see from the screenshots, a game of spirited colors, with each carefully crafted, hand-crafted level having its own distinctive palette. As Alba progresses on PS5, the delicate bar on the DualSense controller will change to reflect the colors of the current stage. So if Alba and Neva suddenly immerse themselves in a part of the world lit with an atmospheric crimson red glow, your DualSense will adjust the hue to match it.

It is a world overrun by nameless evil, often taking the form of “infected” fauna that stands in the way of Neva and Alba. Almost everything is organic in the world, so it was significant to the team that this evil was present in once handsome places and creatures, and Neva and Alba’s mission is to cleanse the world of this evil and restore the beauty that lies within these corrupt animals.

Neva will also leverage the power of the PS5 hardware to run at 4K resolution and 120 frames per second out of the box, making its lush graphics truly stunning on your TV. Neva features a minimal UI, exquisite graphics, high-quality classic animation, and an elegant soundtrack, all of which will come beautifully to life on PS5. We can’t wait for all you PlayStation players to get lost in our story and world and enjoy Alba and Neva’s adventures together.
