Listen, the expansive majority of you 16-24 year olds (and, let’s be straightforward, older people) can’t afford a mortgage. But thanks to a novel Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 promotion, one lucky player will be able to earn £100,000 towards their first home in the Hideout Challenge.
This Hideout Challenge, which starts today, revolves around several influential people competing in their own dedicated Hideout. Players can only vote for who they think will win, and one of the people who voted for the correct winner will receive the main prize. Like a game show, but with a huge deposit in your account.

That £100,000 isn’t all you’ll get either. Activision Blizzard will cover an additional amount for cleaning up your novel game room (though there’s no explicit price for this), as well as legal fees for the actual purchase of your home. This is certainly a substantial reward and I think many hopeful homeowners will take it up.
In the official press release for this promotion there’s a statistic that broke my heart personally: “To celebrate the launch of Call of Duty I’m giving away £100,000 to someone who buys their own hideaway – which would cover the standard house price in 1991 (which was £57,959 )*, extra money for furnishings, legal and solicitor fees as 46% of 18-24 year olds** fear they will never be able to afford their own home, £100,000 prize. it’s more than just a sum of money; it is a rescue, offering significant assistance in their own ‘hideout’.”
The standard house price in 1991 was £57,959? Man, I’m furious. The average house price is currently £282,000. It’s wild and annoying! It’s also crucial to remember because this means that even if you’re the lucky winner of the money, you’ll probably still have over £100,000 left to pay for your novel home. So if you’re going to try to get money, maybe you’ll find a job along the way.
But for one of the most anticipated games of the year, there’s a breathtaking amount of money at stake. So go for it if you’re a CoD fan like me and can’t see the mortgage. If you don’t win, you can always work out your sadness by throwing money at the in-game currency. This would certainly be a hearty solution (it is not).
