Digital Foundry has just released a PS5 Pro comparison video showing off the difference that the console’s AI scaling technology in particular makes to The Last of Us Part II Remastered.
The video speaks for itself, and the result, which is not surprising, is that the Pro’s performance is simply better than on the regular PS5. The game’s Pro mode renders the image at 1440p resolution, then PSSR upscales it to full 4K, ultimately 60 frames per second.
In miniature, it achieves its goal of combining the aged Performance and Fidelity modes, giving players the best of both worlds.
The frame rate is almost flawless, with only minor drops during cutscene transitions. Meanwhile, the image quality more than matches the aged Fidelity mode, and in many cases looks better.
Again, it’s no surprise that the improved PS5 Pro hardware makes the game look and play better, but this is one of our first head-to-head comparisons, which is always fascinating.
Results will obviously vary from game to game, so hopefully we’ll see more comparisons like this against other titles as we get closer to the PS5 Pro’s November launch.
