Windblown is an action roguelite similar to Dead Cells, the previous game from developer Motion Twin, but it trades the vanilla atmosphere for a 3D and more colorful world and adds a co-op mode for up to three buddies. This sounds very appealing, and now it has a release date: October 24.
What’s more, a single-player demo will appear on October 14 as part of Steam Next Fest.
The combat in Dead Cells was fantastic and the progression system made each novel playthrough exhilarating. Despite the change in style and perspective, Windlbown seems to offer a similar experience of rushing and crashing across floating sky islands.
This thought is seemingly crucial given Edwin’s impressions of Windblown’s GDC presentation.
“Windblown’s dash sometimes seems to express a deep impatience with the rest of the game, which sounds perverse at first glance, but makes sense when you consider the inherent repetitiveness of roguelikes. This is a dash dedicated to the experienced player’s desire to instantly return to the biome where they last put on their clogs,” wrote Edwin. “However, there are a few familiar elements that slow you down: bosses that must be fought to advance the story, and the basic pressure to defeat enemies and collect new gear, otherwise you’ll get your ass kicked by the game’s unmissable threat. next biome together.”
My favorite moments with Dead Cells were early in Early Access, when it was also a game of impatience and where most enemies could be defeated through tower placement and ladder-based cheese strategies. When updates came and forced me to snail-paced down and engage with the deeper systems, the game was still fun, but no longer casual and frivolous. I’d be ecstatic to hop on the Windblown train early in case it takes a similar route.
The demo seems like a good place to start. It will launch on October 14, and while it will be narrow to single-player online, any progress made will carry over to the full game ten days later. You will find a few more details on Steam.
