We still don’t know much about the Super Mario Bros. movie sequel, but the voice behind Toad promises at least some “deep cuts.”
A sequel to Super Mario Bros. is in the works. it’s been going on for a while, but it’ll probably be a long time before we see anything from it. But Keegan-Michael Key, the actor who played everyone’s favorite anthropomorphic mushroom toad, shared some tidbits in a recent interview with Men’s Journal. “One thing I can say about the second film is that it has a slightly broader scope and takes place in a very intriguing story and world of Mario,” Key said. “They will find some really fantastic Easter eggs and it has been very exciting so far.”

Anyone who saw the first installment has probably already counted all the Easter eggs this installment contains, and I’m sure the news that there will be even more of them in the sequel will be welcomed by the same audience. Key continued to be vague about the film, saying, “I feel like they’ve done it creatively, they’ve really expanded the universe that these characters live in, and we’re going to meet some up-to-date people. meet some up-to-date people who are ancient favorites and some people who I think are really engaging, but with the way the story is shaping up now, these characters are going to be very intriguing.
This, of course, raises the question of who these deep cuts will be – Prince Haru from that 80s Mario anime? Mushbert from Mario Party Advance? And maybe, hopefully, we’ll get Stanley Bugman, everyone’s favorite character from Donkey Kong 3. Now we just have to see if we can actually get the one and only Danny DeVito to play Wario (start your petition now, people).
