In the growing field of special editions DualSense Wireless Controllersthe latest is definitely the most cheerful yet. That’s not necessarily how most would describe a game controller, but the Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense controller is cheerful in a way that many other designs aren’t. So, buckle up and prepare for a quasi-anthropomorphization of your controller, people.
Launched at the same time as Astrobot game, the controller is a perfect microcosm of the titular robot. From Astro’s striking eyes on the touchpad to the much more subtle robot-like details on the front of the controller, along with Astro’s gorgeous reproduction of white and blue colors, it’s a controller that lives up to its mission of embodying a theme, game, or character in a physical piece of hardware.
In the case of narrow edition game controllers, they can be a bit crude or tacky (some have carelessly imposed graphics, such as Space Marine 2 DualSense, which came out recently), or are almost exclusively a crystal clear version of the overall color (as is the case with the Death Stranding DualShock 4 controller), Astrobot DualSense (like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 DualSense), in turn, is distinguished by its unique aesthetics and design.
The result is one of Sony’s most exquisitely crafted projects, combining game and character with an add-on to create something not only aesthetically pleasing but also something that captures the essence of Astrobot.
Robo-visualizations worth watching
The most striking element of the controller is the blue and white colour scheme; the spirited blue sections of the controller grips are brilliant, and the lighter shade of white compared to the DualSense’s plain white provides better contrast. These blue sections have an almost depth to them, making them look like they’re embedded deep into the grips, which is particularly cold. They also facilitate create the appearance of being robot or electrical panels..
Complementing this, those blue Astro eyes stare at you adoringly, popping out from the black touchpad. The pale blue accents on the face buttons and d-pad – the same blue as the eyes – provide the perfect amount of pop from the sea of robotic white.
However, my favorite detail of the entire controller – and one that really shows the manufacturer is committed to its original character – is the tidy, geometric lines engraved into the pad’s faceplate, running underneath the knobs and along the insides of the grips.
Yes, other parts are more obvious and bombastic, but these are the perfect subtle embellishments that finish off the panel beautifully, but also serve as a reminder of what and who it’s based on. For example, one section on the front “connects” the thumbsticks and the microphone mute button with uncomplicated, pleasing lines that wouldn’t look out of place on Astro himself. To finish it off, a more obvious reminder of this is the sweet Astro Bot head on the back of the controller – no part of this DualSense is devoid of Astro.

This is one of the best versions best ps5 controllerand is simply a cheerful addition to Sony’s lineup of controllers. It’s already an early candidate for the first controller I’ll pair with PS5 Pro also, the combination of white, blue and black of both the controller and the console created quite a nice image.

Performance isn’t any different than other DualSense controllers, but when I start playing myself soon, using a game controller will be much more satisfying and enjoyable.
Cold details and aesthetic descriptions aside, there’s something else about using such a well-designed controller with its partner game. I had the same reaction and feeling when I used Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 controller with Peter Parker’s second output.
The Venom-inspired design of the controller perfectly reflects the conflict between Peter Parker’s two sides in the game; black, Venom-like tentacles crawl from side to side across the controller’s red casing, while brilliant white spots symbolize the contrasting eyes of both characters when equipped.
The result, at least for me, was that the hardware and software were closely linked. It reinforced the memory of the first time I played the game.
However, although I enjoyed playing, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 with the DualSense accompanying it in all its modernity, I know I’m going to Love game Astrobot with this up-to-date controller. Although I won’t be looking at it all the time – although it’s so good that it would require such a distraction – the flashes of those eyes and the blue of the controller grips will remind me of the perfect combination I’m enjoying. It’s another way I Astro series could remind people why the DualSense controller is so great – and now it has a design that matches this technical genius.
Although the Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense sold out in a flash, we hope Sony releases more, especially for the holidays.
