The Spider-Man Next Door still doesn’t have its first trailer, but Marvel has announced a prequel comic to the animated series.

Despite the fact that Marvel’s animated version of everyone’s favorite arachnid, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, is due out in about two months, we haven’t seen much of him. Despite that, the upcoming comic book prequel It was revealed which essentially serves as an origin story for this version of Peter Parker, which Marvel describes as follows: “In this new comic book series, you can take your first steps right along with him as he discovers his powers, decides to become a hero, and even chooses his name and costume. Now Peter must survive his first year as a budding crime-fighting vigilante… and if you think you know how this story goes, you’re in for a surprise!”

One might assume that the last line suggests that his origin story won’t be as cut and dehydrated, and that it will be different from the typical Spider-Man story. He also has a sturdy team, with Eric Gapstur as artist for the five-part series and Christos Gage as writer. Gage is very familiar with Spider-Man, having written many comics as well as Insomniac games.

“I’ve had the honor of writing many of Spider-Man’s adventures, both in comics and for Insomniac video games, but one thing I’ve never had the opportunity to do is recount his earliest exploits,” Gage said in a statement.

“And what’s exciting about this book is that it’s a completely new take on those formative times. While it’s definitely Peter Parker, the Spider-Man we know and love has a new cast of supporting characters — including Nico Minoru, who you may recognize from Runaways — and some surprising twists!”

The first issue of the comic is set to be released on December 11, about a month after the premiere of the series, which is currently scheduled for November 2.
