Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Had a ‘Rather Rocky Launch,’ So Konami Says It’s Being More Careful with Volume 2

Published:

Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is in the works, but getting it to store shelves will be more tough than expected.

Metal Gear series promotion director Jiro Oishi and production producer Noriaki Okamura discussed plans for the tactical espionage action series in the latest episode of Production Hotline published by KonamiDuring the Q&A session, Okamura admitted that fans are eagerly awaiting to find out what games will be included in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. However, bringing some of the newer titles to a state-of-the-art audience comes with its own set of challenges, including avoiding the issues that Vol. 1 faced upon launch.

Konami wants to make sure Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is produced correctly.

While Okamura assures that another entry in the Master Collection is in the works, the team doesn’t want to come across as the same problems that plagued Vol. 1 buyers at launch. For example, PC players were quickly criticizes the Metal Gear Solid collection lack of display settings, and a locked 720p resolution. These issues and others caused reviews on Steam to drop to “mixed,” though the game ultimately bounced back, with many titles in the collection now sporting a “very positive” rating.

“We’re also concerned that Vol. 1 had a pretty difficult launch with all the issues,” Okamura added, “so we’ll do our best not to repeat that, but we have to ask everyone to give us time.”

There’s more than one reason Konami wants Vol. 2 to stay in the oven for a while longer, though. Last year’s games, like Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, are based on existing HD ports. That helped streamline the process for Konami, but it won’t have the same advantage when it comes to remastered versions of newer Metal Gear titles.

“We had HD ports of MGS1, 2, and 3. Or, sorry, not exactly 1, but the other two,” Okamura said. “But most of the titles that came out after them don’t have an existing HD port that we could use. Some are in HD, but they would all be really big titles, and that comes with its own set of issues.”

Due to these obstacles, Konami says it will “be some time” before it announces the lineup or release date for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. Okamura isn’t ready to confirm whether fans will finally get the long-awaited Metal Gear Solid 4 port they’ve always dreamed of, but he does at least note that they’ll reveal more information when the team is ready.

Konami isn’t ready to announce a release date for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, but that won’t stop fans from guessing which titles will be chosen. Players could discover the evidence that games like Metal Gear Solid 4, 5 and Peace Walker would join the collection delayed last year. Konami itself suggested more in volume 2 from October last yeargoing so far that Just last month I told fans to “stay tuned”.IGN was also managed to confirm the list of suspect titles for volume 2 last year.

Meanwhile, a remake titled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set to arrive this year. You can check out our first hands-on preview Here.
