When asked what it meant to be a part of the beloved franchise, Matten said, “I’m really honored,” continuing, “It’s really frosty. I got to meet Eric Nam, who plays Aang, a few weeks ago in Los Angeles, and he’s a really nice guy. I met Dave Bautista a few years ago in Toronto. I met Dave briefly in Toronto just through mutual friends. He’s a really great guy too, so I’m really excited that it’s just a cast of amazing people, really nice people.
“That’s what you want to do. You want to work with nice, cool people on projects. I’m looking forward to it. That’s coming out early next year. I learned more about what Avatar: The Last Airbender meant to people, just being honest about booking that role. I really hope I do it justice and I hope people enjoy what I do. I just don’t want to let anyone down, that’s all.”
Details about the recent Avatar movie are still pretty insufficient, but it’s set years after the original series, with the Gaang now all grown up. Of the original cast, only Dante Basco is returning, another fan favorite as Zuko, while Erin Nam and Roman Zaragoza are taking on the roles of Aang and Sokka, respectively. The film is set to be released on January 30, 2026, so you’ll likely have to wait a bit for a trailer.
